The Hobbit in 4D

It was rumoured that the Hobbit was delaying its release date because of struggling finds within MGM, however it has become apparent that this might not be completely true.
Guillermo Del Torro has told TotalFilm that the delay is due to the film being finished and presented in 4D!

So what is 4D? Well it is hoping ot combine the visual 3D, that was so effectively used in Avatar, and add physical stimuli to the visual experience, such as, touch, taste, smell, and possibly movement.

For this film, Del Torro is hoping to encompass smell, into the scenes with the trolls, heated seats, when gollum enters the underground caves, and dry ice and water spray, for the scenes in which Gollum meets and talks to Bilbo.

All should make for an awesome experience, not too dissimiliar to something which those lucky enough to visit Universal Studios Florida, would have experienced in the Shrek in 4D ride/film experience.

The only problem that I can see is whether cinemas will be able to adapt and perform the 4D scenes as well as they are intended by Del Torro and Peter Jackson.

I seriously hope they can manage it because this could be one of the best cinema experiences ever if it all comes together properly.

Hangover 2 cast confirmation

All three leading stars from Hangover have signed up to be in Hangover 2.

Bradley Cooper, who played school teacher Phil, Ed Helms, who played dentist Stu, and Zach Galifianakis, who played unemployed legend Alan, have all agreed to be in the comedy sequel.

The latest installment was rumoured to take place in Thailand, but Director Todd Phillips has played down these rumours:

"There’s a lot of rumors. There was a rumor also that it was going to Mexico or something and neither are true.”

Hangover took $467 million from a small budget of only $34 million, and also won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.

In the original the three lead roles were paid $1 million dollars each, but the contracts for the latest film will earn them all $5 million.

If you loved Hangover as much as I did, and I haven't met anyone who didn't like it, then this is most definitely one to keep an eye out for next year, with filming starting in July.

However, I am praying that the sequel is not just an attempt to cash in and that it does have some substance, because a poor sequel could play down the greatness of the first film in the future.

Thursday 18th March - Skins

Skins - last episode in series 4

Broadcast at 10 o'clock on E4

Having watched all 4 series of skins, and they have all been pretty different in my opinion, the end of series signals sad feelings. But when this series finished last night, I realised how much I did actually like the characters and their relationships.

When Series 2 finished my reaction was one of excitement, looking forward to the new series that had been commisioned. However, with this one it is more of sadness that we will not see the characters again.

Halfway through this episode I turned to my housemates and wondered if anyone knew how they could finish it as none of the characters were going to uni or indeed away anywhere. This problem was quickly rectified as the programme went on with people getting acceptance into university from exams they had kept secret to the group or through a sports scholarship, or that they are going travelling.

Although the fan favourite, or character that they love to hate, Cook was left almost open ended so we may see him return in series 5 or 6, hopefully.

Skins is something that really has got students buzzing this series, with almost every status update on facebook on a Thursday night having some reference to the programme. I love it, and if you have happened to miss this series I think you may stil be able to view most of it 4od, or the dvd boxset is out now. Definitely a must have if you love your drama programmes, or just TV in general.

Im just left wondering what E4 is going to pull out of the schedule to fill the now empty slot on a Thursday night because in my opinion the adddition of Glee has failed to capture the hearts of many students, so what is there going to be to fill the teen drama slot. I personally would recommend new comers to watch 90210, although it is getting later on in the series now, but again I think you may still eb able to catch upw ith the majority of the series on 4od. Well worth doing before the new episode airs on Tuesday night and repeated on Sunday evenings. Give it a ponder.

Wednesday 17th March - Ghost Hunters

Ghost Hunters

Broadcast on Livingit - 10 o'clock

Since being at Uni, one of my housemates and me have discovered Ghost Hunters. We both used to watch Most Haunted but were getting fed up with nothing actually happening, ever. Then we stumbled across Ghost Hunters, which is awesome.

Unlike MH, GH go to locations to try and explain stuff that people have experienced in rational terms, and most things turn out to have a very rational explanation, but not everything.

Last night was a special in that it was an hour and a half long and instead of the normal one day and night in the location it was two. The reason for this was that they were investigating the Stanley Hotel, the location for the film and inspiration for the book "The Shining".

Well things went as normal for the first day, with many strange things being caught on camera, only to be explained away as a heat reflection or some other normal occurence. That was until the crew went to sleep for the night and left the camera's rolling.

Queue a fat balding man asleep in bed, in one of the supposed haunted rooms. Over the mans snoring we hear what sounds like a door being opened, creepy enough. But then we hear what sounds like a glass being flicked and a marble being dropped.

These noises had woken the sleeping man who left his bed and piced up the recording camera to investigate. Sure enough the wardrobe door had opened, when we had seen it shut earlier. Then we realise that the glass noise was the man's drinking glass on the bedside dresser being smashed. A chunk of glass lays on the table and a crack has spread around the outside.

Obviously shaken the man sets up the camera on the bedside table , where it can see the whole room and the wardrobe door, and sits back in bed.

Within three seconds, fully caught on camera, the door closes by itself, latches and locks. Some Spooky Stuff.

Ghost Hunters, seriously well worth a watch. Like Most Haunted, but good.

Tuesday 16th March - 90210

90210 - Broadcasted at 9 o'clock on E4

90210 has stepped up the last few weeks and this episode was no different; with potential new romances failing, old flames restarting and home truths setting people free.

Navid remembered that it was Jasper who pished him down the stairs but knows that he has no proof of it so became determined to make sure everyone know that Jasper is a drug dealer.
FINALLY! Jasper has been slowly turning Annie against her family and friends through his denial of the alegations against him and the lies that he has told her. It is about time that she realised what her boyfriend is really like, and, after Adrianna confessed to the group that it was Jasper who dealt to her this happens and Annie starts to see the lies that she has believed upto know.

Meanwhile, Ted's playboy reputation stops Silver from going with him to the dance and when he tries to kiss on her on the dance floor things go from worse to worse and Silver leaves upset.
Fortunately, Dixon was on hand to assure her and the pair of them end up kissing and Dixon tells Silver that he doesnt know why he ever let her get away. Silver tells him that their cab is here and that they need to talk.

Dixon has been a pretty decent guy this series, being treated terribly by his ex-girlfriend who faked a pregnancy to break up with him, and it is good to see that things can finally go well for him. On the same note it is also wuite reassuring to see that being a playboy, in Teddy, also has its ramifications, and that when he seriously likes a girl it comes back to bite him.

I have got to say that I am relatively knew to 90210, only watching it for about 6 weeks or so, but so far it is my favourite show on TV at the minute, other than the coveted Skins of course. It is well worth a watch if your stuck for something to watch on 4od.

The Danny Cuff seal of approval.
